This presentation examines how Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) principles can enhance community-engaged research and foster partnerships that yield lasting social and health benefits. It introduces the SCOPE (Sustainable Community Partnership and Empowerment) framework as a model for creating equitable, long-term collaborations between researchers and communities, grounded in mutual respect, shared decision-making, and community leadership. Drawing on examples from long-term fieldwork in Botswana and other global settings, this presentation illustrates how communities and researchers can collaborate to prioritize research objectives, develop culturally relevant interventions, and define success through engagement, empowerment, and ongoing local capacity building.
